OUR LOVE | Our First Time Going to Premarital Counseling

May 25, 2017

Last week, my boyfriend and I took a huge step in our relationship and attended our first Christian Couple Counseling session. In September this year, we will be together for 7 years so we thought that now would be a great time to prepare ourselves for whatever God has in store for us. The whole purpose of signing up for Christian Couple's Counseling is to grow spiritually together and to also align ourselves in the will of God. The desire to please God has been so heavy in our hearts and as we continue to figure out our way through adulthood we are preparing ourselves for the next step in our relationship.

Our counseling session was with Pastor Vince Taylor at Faith Fellowship in San Leandro, CA. We've been attending Faith Fellowship for over a year and we have been so blessed to receive the Word there and to also meet a lot of great people. Before meeting with Pastor Vince, we were so nervous because we didn't know what to say or what to expect.  During our first session we were asked questions like: "How did you guys meet?" "Do you live together?" "Do you have any kids?"  "Are you guys risk takers?" "How do you handle finances?" "Would you ever move out the Bay Area?" He even asked about marriage. Our answers to these questions gave us assurance that we were on the right track as a couple.

There was so much knowledge to take in from Pastor Vince. He talked about the importance of maintaining a friendship in our relationship and not taking each other for granted. He also challenged us to expand our horizons and not be afraid of thinking outside of the box.  One of the topics that really got to me is when he spoke about setting an example for our children before they're even born and what we do now will impact our children's children. Pastor Vince prayed over our meeting and left us with  this Bible verse:

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed" -Proverbs 16:3

When we walked out of Pastor Vince's office,  we were so grateful that we decided to attend Premarital Counseling.  I'm so happy we didn't bail out on this meeting hahaha! We felt rejuvenated and hungry for more afterwards. We are two imperfect people who love each other and decided to put God first.  We will be attending Premarital Counseling once a week for the next few months. We are looking forward to strengthening our faith together, and all we ask is that you pray for us and our families. We'll continue to blog about our counseling experience. We'll leave you guys with a straight face ...... LOL!!
