I have plenty of beautiful ambitious female colleagues and cousins who are single. I felt the need to write this blog post because every time my homegirls see a picture of my boyfriend and I they would say something like, "I need to find me a man" or "You're so lucky to have a boyfriend!" My response to them is always the same, "Girrl, embrace your singleness!". You might be thinking, "You shouldn't write about single women if you're in a relationship". Well, the fact that I'm in a relationship actually qualifies me to blog about this topic even more LOL! I write this blog from the perspective of a young woman who has been in a relationship for over 6 years. First of all, you're amazing all by yourself and you don't need a man to tell you that. When you're single, you can focus 100% on you. You don't have to worry about whether your man has had anything to eat or if he got home safe from work. All of your attention can be focused on taking care of yourself.Your single season is a time for you to gain more independence. It's 2017 and the times have changed. Women are running businesses, earning their degrees, and holding down the household! You can start bettering yourself now. Get educated on finances and investment properties. Grow in knowledge so you can be able to provide for yourself. Being single means you don't have to share your popcorn when you go to the movies.... LOL! I'm kidding! When you're in a serious relationship, there's just so much of your time, energy, and money that you have to invest in your other half (and if he's an amazing boyfriend like mines, he would invest in you too! LOL). I'm not saying that being in a relationship is a bad thing, I'm saying that if you're single- you should own it and be proud of yourself. Do you know how many girls settle for less than what they deserve??A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and I went on a date to TGI Friday's and lets just say...we're never going there again ahaha! One of the reasons why is because we were seated next to a couple where the boyfriend publicly humiliated his girl. I honestly couldn't believe the harsh words coming out of his mouth. He threatened to hit his girlfriend while degrading her. No woman deserves that kind of disrespect.Being single is a blessing. Please don't ever fall into the lie that you're single because you're not pretty enough or good enough. There's nothing wrong with you. Don't underestimate the single season God has you in. Don't rush things. There are expectations for a woman when she reaches a certain age in her life. It's the age when family members question "who's the lucky man?" or "when are you getting married?" . Don't allow society and cultural expectations to pressure you into a relationship you don't need. At the right timing, Mr.Right will come along but for now, learn how to enjoy your own company, live your life and spoil yourself sis.
